I would like to introduce you to my sweet mother-in-law Jo Anne Jaschke who is an amaizing multi media that specializes in textile and hand made paper master pieces. Born in Mulbery, Misoury, raised in Laramie Wyoming. She was an RN for 46 years. She is an avid ballroom dancer and an artist.
She first started to do art about 30 years ago; she would go to the library to learn techniques, and would get house paint and paint on canvas, but it would eventually crack.
Jo, her husband, and 2 sons moved to Laporte, TX. Her neighbor had an interior design studio. She invited Jo to come and help her customers select designs. She liked it so much that Jo enrolled into design school. In addition to raising two boys, she worked 5 days a week as a nurse; she worked at the studio on Saturdays and went to design school at night. She first started paper art when she visited Carmel, California where she found her true passion for textile/paper art. Jo came back to Laporte, went to the library to find out how to make paper, got raw cotton and made her own paper in her food blender… she burned several blenders…It took a lot of pulp to make paper. Jo finally got word from another artist that told her she didn’t have to go through all that trouble that she could order it by the vat!
She had to have special screens with copper mesh to do the paper. Once she got the technique down, she started to make a lot of art. She had hosted several shows and donated a lot of her art to charities. Several of her art pieces were displayed in model homes gave many to friends because it gave her great pleasure.
Professor Krieger, a New York artist was Jo’s dinner guest. She wrote several letters about Jo’s art. Professor Krieger was a great artist and could make intricate art with anything.
As Jo’s artist career progresses, she incorporated found objects like dryer lint, beads, feathers… She went from making hand made paper to using other medias such as other types of paper; tissue paper, paper towels, fabric, and much more. Jo definitely has a flair for interior design.
